Illegal Dumping Reaches Record High at Rouge National Park.
So this is gross. Incidents of illegal dumping in Rouge National Park have essentially quadrupled since 2020, with over 403 incidents being reported in 2023 and 1500 in that time frame.
“At this time last year, we saw peak levels of illegal dumping, with an average of two dumpsites appearing every day, a trend that continued into the fall,” said Sarah Simpson, acting external relations manager for the park.
People are dumping household trash, furniture, landscaping debris, and even hazardous industrial waste such as used tires, scrap metal, and paint cans.
Two of the biggest factors in why these dump sites keep popping up are the cost of Waste removal and the lack of awareness among the growing population. The Park authorities want to raise awareness of the issue and stress that if you see an illegal dump site, you should contact them at the number in the link.
