Province seeks RFPs for extending the Yonge Subway line
Ontario is taking the next steps to get shovels in the ground for the newest phase of the TTC expansion up into Richmond Hill. Extending the Yonge Subway line is one of 4 transit priorities for the province, and this step in the process signals that they intend to deliver on it.
“The RFP release is the next critical step in our government’s plan to extend subway service north from Finch Station to communities in Markham, Vaughan and Richmond Hill, for the first time ever,” Prabmeet Sarkaria, minister of transportation, announced in Markham.
Connecting York Region to the TTC is a long time coming. Once in service, the 8KM extension will make over 94,000 daily trips. Access to Toronto’s transit system through York Region’s VIVA BRT lines means more movement and opportunities for the citizens of Markham.
