Paul Calandra confirms Premier Ford uses his personal cell phone to conduct government affairs, More like Swiss Chal-Nay and what's up this weekend in Markham
Our MPP accidentally cranks up the Heat on Premier Ford, a look at the weekend weather, A Dine Safe notice and more.
Markham-Stouffville MPP, House Leader, and Minister of Housing Paul Calandra Confirms Premier Ford uses his phone to conduct Government affairs.
Oops.
What sounded like a defense of Premier Ford at the behest of an NDP motion to have Premier Ford turn over his personal phone records has all but confirmed that Doug Ford uses his phone to conduct government business. Could he call Flato Developments CEO Shakir Rehmatullah about access to protected greenbelt land? Who knows, because the Premier is doing his best to avoid that outcome. But Calandra’s poorly worded defense certainly doesn’t help.
This is all coming as the heat gets cranked up around the infamous Las Vegas trip that Ford’s Aides, a Sitting MP and Rehamatullah took in 2020. This trip appears to start the Greenbelt scandal currently enveloping the Ford government. The NDP has also asked for an ethics probe investigation into ties between Government employees and Flato - Which Calandra supports.
Speaking of Flato, a petition is making the rounds to remove its name from the Markham theatre. While there is merit to this request, given the above, It’s unlikely this will result in any action due to the naming being a corporate sponsorship vs. a declaration from any level of public office.
You Can’t Eat Just Anywhere
Swiss Chalet on Woodbine in Markham has been hit with a Dine Safe violation for “failure to provide adequate protection against the entrance of insects, vermin or rodents. The business was reinspected and reopened Oct. 15.”
While it has since re-opened, I can’t imagine too many people rushing to get their festive specials…
