MSH is the 9th Busiest Hospital in Ontario.
Good Morning Markhamites, Sadly, yes it’s still February.
Are you one of the lucky ones gettting paid for working an extra day this year?
According to the article, if you’re hourly-based or your pay schedule is bi-weekly, yes. You will get a bit more than you normally would at the end of this year. But if your pay schedule is on the boring old 15th and 30th of the month, you’re technically working for free today. Sorry about that.
Today’s read time is less than 4 minutes.
Markham Stouffville Hospital is the 9th busiest in Ontario.
Hospital wait times in York region are on average, below the provincial benchmark of 2.1 hours to see a doctor. However, the one with the steepest rise in that rate is Markham Stouffville Hospital. In Dec of 2022, the wait time at the hospital to see a doctor was 0.9 hours - but in December 2023, that wait time ballooned to 1.6 hours. From April 2023 to Jan 2024, they also saw an 11% increase in patient volume compared to the year prior. Beyond the usual understaffing and seasonal increases, It’s important to remember that MSH is closer and often more convenient for those living in north Scarborough or Pickering. However, as Markham begins to grow in population and density, this will continue to be an issue.
Reminder: if it is non-urgent, you can always contact the community clinic to be seen virtually by a physician or nurse practitioner.
Markham’s Chinese Heritage Month goes on despite one Councillor abstaining from the vote over procedure.
“Describing himself as a “process nerd”, Keyes insisted that all proclamations should follow established standards by the city, including making proclamation requests at least three weeks in advance.”
The city confirmed and validated that the request was received by the city clerk on January 29th, and it was put to the council at the next meeting two days later.
“The Committee allowed for the introduction of this matter – which is within its prerogative – and approved the proclamation. The item subsequently went to Council on Jan. 31 and was approved by Markham City Council,” the email reads.
In other news, yesterday Council passed a motion proclaiming the month of March as Little Native Hockey League Month in honour of the 50th running of the tournament in Markham over March Break.
