Markville’s Re-development proposal met with ire from the community
Last week’s development services meeting for Markville Mall got a bit heated as local community groups voiced their concerns and displeasures with the plan.
Dozens of disputants came to express concern over increased traffic on McCowan and Highway 7, The lack of a link to public transit and the fact there are no schools included in the plan. What was shown to them didn’t exactly do much to address those concerns, as it was glaringly obvious these were not even considered in the plan's first draft. Representatives for the development were largely unprepared to respond to these concerns, chalking most up to “ we’ll have a look at it.”
Attendees also noted that the meeting left them with more questions than answers and serious concerns about the project’s viability. They also expressed concerns that “ Cadillac Fairview had thought plenty about maximizing investment in the property, but little about anything else beforehand.”
