Let’s all go to Unionville.
Good Morning Markhamites,
In case you didn’t see the huge signs and orange traffic cones, Ninth Line is undergoing repairs from the Donald Cousens bypass up to Stouffville. These repairs are expected to continue until late July.
That’ll slow down those Stouffvillians from clogging up the joint Petro-Canada/KFC coming to the corner of 9th line and 16th.
Today’s read is less than 4 minutes.
The Unionville Festival kicks off this weekend.
It’s no secret that Main Street Unionville is steeped in history. Some bad, some good. This weekend, the Unionville festival celebrates the good: In 1969, Unionville residents banded together to save what is now known as Main Street from Kennedy Road widening taking place south of Hwy 7. If you ever wondered why Kennedy winds way around to the east of Unionville, The Festival is why.
The Unionville Festival is this weekend and is an appreciation of all things historic. From the Planing Mill to the Old Firehall to Toogood Pond and the many historic homes, this festival celebrates the uniqueness of the area. Visit Markham has a list of all the films and TV shows that the street is featured in if you want to check it out.
This year, a parade will start on Saturday at 10 AM followed by shops and food vendors, a dog agility show, and a rubber duck race in Toogood Pond. It will continue on Sunday with the same events. Over 30,000 people attended last year, and they expect 35,000 this year. If you come out, parking will be limited, so use public transit if possible. Head over to the Markham Review to see a full rundown.
