Good Morning Markhamites,
York school boards are sending the kids home early next Monday on account of the eclipse. In Markham and the GTA, we won’t get to see the full show like in Niagara or Prince Edward county. However, I don’t mean to be a downer but it’s looking like there’s going to be significant cloud cover, so you might not even be able to see it.
Todays read time is less than 2 minutes.
Why did it take 9 years to build a washroom?
Wismer Park is a huge park with multiple soccer fields and even a small forest. It services one of Markham’s biggest neighbourhoods. So why did it take 9 years to start construction of washroom facilities?
The budget for this work was approved in 2015, but shovels only started digging in 2023. Ward 6 Councillor Amanda Collucci blames the approval process and delays brought on by the pandemic. However, many residents are not satisfied with that answer as they had 5 years to start before the pandemic was brought upon us. There have also been previous issues with servicing in the park, like missing basketball hoops that have yet to be replaced. When residents report issues to the city, there’s always an acknowledgement to fix them as soon as possible, but nothing happens afterward.
The silver lining in this is that the restroom facilities and pavilion are expected to be completed by summer.
