Celebrating Culture and Canada all weekend.
Good Morning Markhamites
The City is hosting a community information session tonight on its Markville Secondary plan, which includes turning the Markville Mall parking lot into high-density housing. Based on how the last public meeting session went, hopefully, some resident concerns have been considered.

What to do for Canada Day weekend
Markham’s Canada Day celebrations usually go above and beyond what other cities in the GTA tend to offer, and this year, it’s no different. From 3-11 pm on Canada Day, the city turns downtown Markham into a huge celebration. The event boasts an almost full day and a packed schedule filled with family-friendly activities, Free parking and even $1 carousel rides. The night’s performances will be well worth the wait. In past years, we have seen performances by Virginia, Vegas, and Tyler Shaw, and this year, we can add millennial icon Fefe Dobson to the list of headliners. The fireworks display starts at 10 pm.
The Taste of Asia festival returns to Pacific Mall this weekend, and it will be a blast. Three days of nonstop festivities will feature over 150 food vendors, Minigames, rides, and performances.
For east enders, the Dorcas Centre at Bur Oak and 16th Avenue has its annual summer concert and outdoor market, with a fireworks show kicking off at 9:30 PM.
As if that wasn’t enough, you can always head to Stouffville for the Stouffville Strawberry Festival—three days of performances, vendors, food trucks and more. The only downside is that you have to go to Stouffville.
Finally, if you plan on keeping it small and celebrating your way, Fireworks don’t need a permit on Sunday or Monday, but you can’t light them off on City Property (like roads, parks and ball diamonds).
