Building Districts Around GO Stations.
Good Morning Markhamites,
The city warns residents not to fall for phone scams over plumbing rebates. Scammers are calling residents and pretending to be representatives of or City of Markham employees demanding inspections of homes.
The city wants residents to know that it will not call residents to request installation and that the rebate program has no mandatory compliance. Any work authorized by the town will include a contact at the city so you can confirm that it’s legit.

Regional Councillor puts forth plan to re-imagine the Stouffville GO Line
Last Week, regional councillor Jim Jones put forth a plan to reimagine how we use the Stouffville GO line. Councillor Jones recognizes that the Transit line is underutilized as a pure commuter mover and envisions the future as not a means to get to work, but almost like a subway for Markham/Stouffville.
Jones wants to envision the current and potentially future stations as hubs, not just in terms of population density but with actual reasons for visiting them besides proximity to your house. Imagine taking the GO Train from Main Street station to Unionville to check out a show at a new theatre or sports facility.
Jones also wants to get the public on board early to maintain communication. He is asking the provincial and federal governments, as well as Metrolinx to get on board with this as well. He believes that investing and prioritizing transit-oriented development will not only help us in our current housing crisis but also promote culture and community within the region.
