Have a safe and Happy Halloween Markham
Happy Halloween/Tuesday, Markhamites - Here’s what’s happening in Markham this week.
Starting this week, two lanes are closed on the Northbound 404 from Hwy 7 to Major Mac from 8 p.m. onward. If commuting back from the city, you should budget extra time or utilize public transit.
Sharing this story from last year - If your Halloween isn’t complete without a 30ft Stay Puft marshmallow man, have we got a neighbourhood for you.
Markham Student is the Winner of a $30,000 Amazon Scholarship.
Congratulations to Markham’s Brian Yan, who was one of 10 students across Canada to win the Amazon Future Engineer scholarship program, Worth $30,000, as he continues his studies at The University of Waterloo.
Brian hopes to utilize his efforts and energy to find applications within artificial intelligence, emerging technologies, and finance to solve some of the world’s most complex problems. “My goal in a nutshell is to leverage tech for social good.”
More Greenbelt Fallout for Flato
The RCMP is ramping up its investigation into Doug Ford’s $8B greenbelt scandal this week. Several outlets are reporting that developers who attended Doug Ford’s daughter’s wedding have been given quite a large amount of MZOs, greatly enhancing the value of their properties. Ministerial Zoning Orders allow for the provincial override of municipal zoning laws - Turning urban, industrial, and commercial spaces into residential zoning, significantly increasing their value to developers.
Flato Developments Founder and President Sakhir Rentamullah was one of those developers invited to Doug Ford’s daughter’s wedding and benefitted the most out of any other developer with 9 MZOs issued between 2020 and 2022.
