A Christmas Cookie Champion, Developers Behaving Badly.
Hello Markhamites!
I hope everyone had a great holiday break. As a reminder, starting Jan 2nd until Jan 12th, you can leave your Christmas tree out at the curb for collection on your regular garbage day.
We’ve got just a quick update this week, but next week, we return to our regularly scheduled twice-weekly editions.
Markham Developer was forced to pay 180K for illegally selling homes.
Ideal Developments headquartered in Markham are being ordered to pay $180,000 in fines for illegally selling homes without a proper license. This developer has been in hot water since 2021 after having a track record of selling pre-construction units and then immediately cancelling the projects.
This latest sentence follows an investigation by the Home Construction Regulatory Agency on behalf of prospective homeowners who bought homes in the Boss Towns development in Richmond Hill.
The project was placed into receivership after Ideal defaulted on the developer mortgage in 2021. The developer who bought the project after decided not to honour the existing sales agreements due to the illegality in which they were drawn up. This left original buyers without deposits or homes.
According to court records, the developer never had a license to sell or build in Ontario, and a Toronto Star investigation found out that they had sold 600 pre-construction units, more than they had ever built over a decade.
To get a full rundown of what Ideal Developments have been up to this past decade, the star has spent years researching and writing about the company after multiple customer complaints.
